Hold on for dear life

What do you do when things are falling apart, and chaos is all around you? Coronavirus continues to wreak havoc across the world, and it shows no sign of slowing down as the numbers keep increasing. The future is uncertain, and the spirit of fear and despair is roaming around you. How do you stay afloat when the storm is violent, and the waves are threatening to sink you?

Psalms 91: 14-16 says “If you hold on to me for dear life,” says God, “I’ll get you out of any trouble. I’ll give you the best of care if you’ll only get to know and trust me, call me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times; I’ll rescue you, then throw you a party. I’ll give you a long life, give you a long drink of salvation!”

Hold on to God for dear life. Remain focused on him because what you focus on is magnified in your life. Doing this will not obliterate all your current challenges; but, God will strengthen you to overcome them all. Like gold, sometimes you must pass through the furnace to be refined and purified for the next phase of your destiny.

When I think of the term ‘hold on for dear life’, I imagine someone riding a stallion galloping its way through a path that is sometimes rocky and unstable—the only way for the rider to stay mounted is for him/her to hold on tight to the reigns. Failure means the risk of being thrown off the horse is very high, and great will be that fall if it happens.

One thing is clear, the journey of life is neither smooth nor easy; however, God guaranteed in his word that when the going gets tough, He will always have your back. Nothing about your life surprises him because he already had the perfect plan for you before you formed in your mother’s womb. All you need to do is trust him and put your confidence in his ability and power. His promises are yes and amen, and they will never return to him void.

So when you pass through the rough waters and the waves are raging violently against you, He will not let you sink. When you pass through the raging fires, although you will feel the heat and see the flames, they will neither burn nor scorch you. When you pass through the valley of the shadow of death, still he will be there with you. In good and bad times, he will never leave your side as long as you hold on to him for dear life, so don’t let go. (reference: Isaiah 43)

This season will eventually pass at some point; however, in the meantime, we ought to hold on and survive. As for me and my household, we choose to lean on God and his promises, because on our own; we can not make it through. So we stand on this promise in Isaiah 41: 10 ” Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

Stay safe, and stay blessed!
