Angelina Ampofo Asomaning

Angelina Ampofo Asomaning is a self-taught artist specialising in oil and acrylic paintings on canvas as well as pencil portraits. She is a BSc Accounting graduate from the University of Education, Winneba-Ghana. Her paintings are inspired greatly by the emotions of women, children, and society in general. In every piece her goal is to tell their unspoken story in an artistic manner. In the near future she plans to engage in various initiatives that provide support to women and children who are victims of domestic violence and abuse in underprivileged communities.

Drawing was always an area of passion for her Angelina since childhood and now it has developed into an area of gifting. For a long-time she drew for leisure however as the talent grew friends encouraged her to take it more seriously and promoting her work to the public. In September 2019, upon completion of the Ghana National Service Program she decided to do commissioned pencil portraits for a fee while searching for an accounting job. A portrait at a time she has been growing her collection and people are beginning to take notice of her impressive work of art.

Everyone needs a mentor to navigate unchartered territory; in January 2020 she linked with an established artist via Instagram who helped her start experimenting with oil and acrylic paints. Since then she has done several paintings and with every stroke the gift continues to grow. Her dream is to one day grace the world’s leading art exhibitions across the globe. Generally, the art-of-paintings is not understood by many, more so in her home nation where she has been promoting her work thus far. What may look like a simple drawing is a work of art that takes many days and hours to perfect, giving attention to every minute detail. She hopes to be able to educate people about these traditional painting works and help them understand and appreciate the value behind each piece.

“I have learnt to believe in myself first and then work toward my dreams. I never knew I could paint until I tried it. So, do not be afraid to try out new things and do not be afraid to ask for help when you need it. “
